Yup, seems to be vendor specific patches. Mandrake offers this as well.
Make me wonder, why it doesn't make it into Gnome D&DP...


Anyway, there is another way of shutting down the machine which does not
need a root terminal. Works pretty well for me.

GDM offers an Actions menu, which has the option to shut down the
machine. After logging out of Gnome, shutdown is only an "Alt-A Return"
away for me (caveat: keystrokes from memory). HTH
