garnome-2.6.2 xft failed on solaris

Hello,

I'm trying ot build on a solaris box (5.8 Generic_108528-29 sun4u sparc 
SUNW,Sun-Blade-1500) garnome-2.6.2.

While configuring gtk I get the error message:

checking for freetype-config... 
/home/ptaczyn/tools/versions/garnome/2.6.2/bin/freetype-config
checking For sufficiently new FreeType (at least 2.0.1)... yes
sh: gnome-config: not found
configure: error: Pango 1.2.0 and Xft backend is required for x11 target

On the list I found some advises:
Install bootstrap/xft, then 'make clean' in platform/pango, then try
again. You need pango compiled with Xft backend as it says above.

Which I did. but it still fails with the same error.
Please note I made also a make clean in platform/gtk just to be sure.

Did someone under Solaris go through this?
