statring garnome from a command line

I plan to run garnome on vt8 from the vt2 text console (alt-ctrl-f2)
in X - is there a simpler way than fuss with the startx command scripts
or gdm/kdm? just a simple command line startup or script that won't bring
everthing else to a screeching halt?
(RH9-KDE 3.1.4.latest is running on vt7 as my primary)
