The Gstreamer error and what to do about it

I'm getting the gstreamer error that was mention a day or so ago when I make
with GCC 3.3.3, 3.4.0, or even 2.9.5 (The earliest I'm willing to go without
risking obscurity/obsolescence in my design cycle--the reason I'm using
Gnome 2.6 anyway). Is there a fix for this? Steps around it? Or some
specific tags I can add in.
