You basically have two choices:
1) Screw up your permissions to /root and make it totally insecure, or
2) Rebuild Garnome properly so it installs itself where you want it.

Hello,
I installed garnome 0.27.1 as root. It was an accident. I was fiddling around
with garnome and all of a sudden it started ;-) . Anyhow, i thought: well
now it is running i better leave it this way; i can always move it. Now it is
ready and runs as root (I love it!). So i decided to move it to
/opt/gnome2.4. But it won't run as another user. X boots and i even get an
gnom-dialog but it is empty with only an "ok" button. Switching back to the
console (crtl-alt-f2) it displays a lot of errors. All regarding (as far as i
can see) to gconf. There are pointers in gconfs configuratio which point to
/root/garnome. Is there a way to fix it? (The pointers exist in a lot of
config files and changing all "/root/garnome" to "/opt/gnome2.4" would be
madness.
Thanks in advance,
rolf
