Epiphany won't compile

Epiphany compilation dies with the following:

I expect this has something to do with fontconfig, freetype and possibly 
xft... but I have no idea how to resolve this. First time trying out 
garnome... dying to start it up for the first time... Looked good up to 
this point. Using Slackware 9.0 by the way.
