error while compiling vte

...i try to install garnome 0.23.1 on my iBook running Debian GNU/Linux (woody), install all libraries as stated, modify "main_prefix" to my my prepared path (/opt/garnome) on gar.conf.mk, cd to meta/gnome-desktop/ and run "make install" as a root,.. system starts to compile but it encounters error when it tries to compile on "vte".
any idea to work it out?
