Why bother? I mean, there are already rpm's of gnome2.2 (mandrake cooker
at least, but I expect polished has a set too.)

Then again a set of rpm's that wouldn't collide with an existing gnome
(1.4 or whatever) install (installing in let's say /opt) might make it
easier for people not familiar with gar/ports -type buildtrees to try
out bleeding-edge gnome.

Adding an install script that would snoop the distro and add a startup
script (t.ex deadrat /etc/X11/gdm/Session/garnome) could actually make
the installation a breeze even for those who dread the shell.
