a compiler error

hello there,

excuse my ignorance, but i have come across a problem compiling garnome
0.28.3.  I tried shoving it in the search box of the mailing list
archives but no messages were found.  I'm compiling on redhat 8.0 to
~/garnome.  any pointers on what i'm doing wrong would be appreciated.
