OK, this time on list (sorry for the direct reply, earlier).

I get the same error with make install, again.  Something wrong with  
fc-cache?  Is there a fix?

For what it's worth, fc-list seems to list all of my fonts (running  
garnome 0.27.1, Red Hat 9).
