Error starting garnome-session

I created the garnome-session script, per the instructions on the garnome
website.  And I inserted the "exec ~/garnome-session" statement into my
.xinitrc.

However, when I "startx", I get this error:

: bad interpreter:  No such file or directorysh
/root/.xinitrc: line 1: /root/garnome-session: Success

waiting for X server to shut down

Does anyone know what the problem is?  Thanks.
