Sounds like an XFT issue -> make sure /etc/X11/XftConfig is correct.

Hrm, OAF is no longer part of GNOME 2, and --disable-factory is just a GNOME
Terminal thing (which makes loading new terminals faster, so you don't want
to turn it off)...
