Sawfish compile error

I grabbed 9.7, but I still have that same sawwfish compile problem that
a few people complained about on the gnome.org postings for 0.9.6

(compiling sawfish/wm/server.jl)
(compiling sawfish/wm/defaults.jl)
error--> (void-value xterm-program)
make[3]: *** [lisp] Error 10
make[3]: Leaving directory
`/home/heath/garnome-0.9.7/gnome/sawfish/work/sawfish-2002-05-02/lisp'

I'm using RedHat 7.2 and I wish I knew enough about lisp to debug the
problem myself.  Sorry for my ignorance, but any help?
