Pango pangs......

I get this message everytime I try to run gnome-session
with garnome 0.9.1
gnome-session: error while loading shared libraries:
/usr/lib/libpangoft2-1.0.so.0: undefined symbol:
FT_Get_First_Char
after recompiling pango and gnome-session I now get
this error with any app..
anyone got a solution?
