I have been struggling with this problem for a while now, without
finding any satisfactory answers. How kdmrc and /etc/X11/wmsession.d
interact with each other is still a mistery to me. Anyway, the work
around as far as I know is to start an xsession by dropping down to
runlevel 3 (ie boot to a terminal, or if you're in X, open up a
terminal, su to root, and type "init 3". Then once you're logged into a
terminal, type xinit. This will start an X session. You will see a
terminal. In the terminal, you'll have to set your $PATH and
$LD_LIBRARY_PATH variables as set out in the readme. Then cd to
~/garnome,
and type gnome-session.

Dunno. Never managed it. I tried for a while, but am using the method
above for the moment.
