opening a window sometimes causes it to crash and I can set it to
respawn once per session. I just wish it would stay that way like the rest.

I had the same problem and fixed it by going into Nautilus - Desktop Preferences - Session Properties and Startup Programs and adding sawfish to the Startup Programs tab
