Is there a $HOME/garnome/bin/gnome-panel file?

If not, then some pats of Garnome did not build correctly, probably
because you're missing some package. Try building just the
gnome-panel garball and watch for any errormessages that might give
you a hint.

Also, there is i file called something like ~/.Xsession-error (can't
check exact filename, not at my computer), which you can check for
error messages.
