To complete this font-config stuff from my side - I think you english guys say "My two cents":

* There is a possibility to start the font-config stuff without setting up the garnome environment as described above:
Make sym link like this: "ln -s $HOME/garnome/lib/libfontconfig.so.1 /usr/lib/"

*Then exec "$HOME/garnome/bin/fc-cache -f" as root

*NOTE:If you do the two steps above - YOU WILL HAVE TO EXEC fc-cache as root AFTER EACH REBOOT

What I mean is the faq "Why do I have to exec fc-cache after....." as I asked some time ago.
