I think you may have run into the same problem I did on first installing
garnome. Do this (obviously replacing /path/to with their actual
values):

su
export PATH=/path/to/garnome/bin:$PATH
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/path/to/garnome/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
fc-cache

You'll probably get a gentle ticking off too like I did - this is an FAQ
on this list. Check the web archive.
