Hi,

You could try a compile with this line in
<garnome-src>/gnome/category.mk

CFLAGS += -O2 -falign-functions=4 -fomit-frame-pointer -funroll-loops
-mfancy-math-387 -pipe -march=k6 -mmmx -m3dnow -mfpmath=387
-finline-functions

Just did that. But, I think I need to recompile entire garnome from the meta/gnome-desktop directory as mentioned on the web-site http://www.gnome.org/~jdub/garnome/

But, in any case....be it from meta/gnome-desktop or gnome/ in the garnome tree, I could not recompile the stuff. It just said

sandeepk sandeepk garnome-0.12.2/meta/gnome-desktop $ make install

I even tried make clean to remove the previously compiled stuff. But, nothing happened !

Also, I forgot to mention this in the previous mail. My gcc -v says

Reading specs from /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i586-mandrake-linux-gnu/2.96/specs
gcc version 2.96 20000731 (Mandrake Linux 8.2 2.96-0.76mdk)

The optimization flags you provided would be good for the entire garnome package or just the gnome sub-directory?

I hope this works for you and gives some better performance. It is best
to recompile whole garnome to avoid subtle differences. I don't know if
it can happen in this case, but just to be sure.

-A.

Thanks
Sandeep
