  Hum, this makes the debugging API default to on, while I really
intend to see this activated only for people who run from CVS, reverted
that and fixed to CVs detection code to actually work (I really don't
want the debug API to be shipped in distro as this code is not safe I'm
afraid, and I don't want anybody to rely on that extra API).
