hi !
following the resolution of bug 143865
(https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=143865), i've
replaced fam with gamin on a busy mail server (courier-imap with 300+
accounts and idle feature turned on)
however, even with no load, gam_server seems to consume more and more
cpu cycles; on the attached mrtg graph, you'll see that
- until 16, fam was running with the same cpu usage (flat average), and
i've replaced it with gamin ; the peaks are because of tests - moving
forth and back a hundred of mails - to check how fast they would
appear/disappear in thunderbird and the ressource used. everything was ok.
- then, during the night, with almost no courier-imap activity (it's
sunday night, only a few email clients are up), the cpu usage slowly grows
- this morning, a bit before 8, gam_server is quite always showing on
the 1st line of top, using a few cpu percents. -> revert back to fam :(
the monitored files are in /home, which is actually a mount --bind of
/mailspace1 ; /home/vmail/.gaminrc only contains "notify /home/*" to be
sure that polling is not used. courier-imap always run under the vmail
account.
the kernel is from kernel.org - not patched with inotify. gamin's
version is 0.1.1, compiled from the site's source rpm for fedora core 2.
any idea ?
thx,
ivan
