This was adjusted for the 3.32 release (more specifically in the 3.31.1
development release), as per its NEWS item:

* Enjoy the victory after winning #22 (Robert Roth)

So your options are to upgrade to 3.32 or 3.34, downgrade, ask your
distro to backport the changes into 3.28 (unlikely, as it's not a
security fix and not even a strictly bug fix qualifying thing), do it
yourself (at which point you might as well use latest version instead),
or play Mines from the flatpak version[1], which would allow you to get
the latest without affecting your distribution. Or endure it until you
get the upgrade naturally.
