Following on from my recent posts about modernising GNOME Games Thomas
and I had a bit of a brainstorming about how we could improve things.
What we came up with was:
- Focussing on a subset of the games to maximise our progress and
ensure we're working on games that are popular
- Producing some standards for what features / technologies the games should use
- Having a goal to get this subset up to a consistent standard
Here is the proposal to implement this:
https://live.gnome.org/GnomeGames/Modernisation
It's a matrix of tasks to complete to make eight really good quality
games (glchess, glines, gnomine, gnotravex, iagno, mahjongg, sudoku,
swell-foop). There are 60 tasks to complete as of today and we're
~30% of the way there currently.
What I like about a strategy like this is we can point anyone at this
matrix and it should be an easy way for them to get involved (i.e.
don't have to dredge through bugzilla trying to find tasks). Each
task should be self contained and can be worked on by people with
different skills. And everyone can see the progress as we go.
The idea would be to publicise this matrix and get new people to come
in and help out.
What do people think?
