I have no problem paying the fee for myself. I just think it's odd that there has been no information of this change and why it's needed. I can understand if it's hard to get the money to run the conference but since we haven't had a fee earlier I think it would have made a lot of sense to inform the community as to why it was needed this year. It should also be very clear (on the web and in the announcement) who is to be considered a professional (to avoid these kind of discussions). In this case _no_ information regarding this and no discussion (with the community) has lead up to the descision.
