Re: RealMedia used for GUADEC live transmissions?



MP4, more correctly MPEG 4, is a standard but is full
of patents, although there are Free Software codec
implementations available (XVID and ffmpeg), and
interestingly, at this time in Ireland, these patents
may not be valid (but this may change soon,
unfortunately).  How usable are the MPEG 4 tools for
the purpose of streaming at this time, I don't know.

In any case, hopefully in the future GNOME events can
be streamed via GStreamer-type tools using free
codecs.
