Re: New York Times story (GNOME Foundation == OSF??)



Hi Mark,

I agree that the NYTimes story makes the foundation sound too much like
an industry consortium.  I was one of the people who briefed John Markoff
and gave him an accurate overview of what the foundation is all about.
The reality is that the big news here is that all these major companies
are joining the GNOME movement, and of course, the biggest news so far is
that Sun is adopting GNOME as the desktop for Solaris.

But I do think the press release, as it currently stands, adequately
describes the different roles of the hackers and the corporate advisors.

The reason I didn't comment on the story is that it was 1:30 am and I
wanted to go to sleep :)
