Thanks, Pádraig,

for confirming this by means of the attached PNGs. Fonts look kind of
different in FC4 and Ubuntu, that's what I've learned too; perhaps due
to different antialiasing methods used as you mentioned? Please find
attached a PNG of Nautilus which shows the effect of not centered
diereses under Ubuntu (cf. red-marked areas) even for "normal"-sized
fonts (Sans 10 pt). Well, I'm not really a specialist in fonts design,
but do you -- or someone else from the list -- have an idea where to
find the reason for this effect?
