The try except block is needed for the case, if no image file was given
to the main method. The default values are given in the file, too.

There's no try except block around the method causing the error. It
looks like OpenCV catches an exception and does not provide any
information on that.

Thanks for the hint to your library, I've already seen it.
The interesting aspect Ali's approaches have is the integration into
F-Spot. It would be great if something like this could be integrated.
