weird dups?

Folks

I'm in the process of cleaning things up so I can publish some of my
photos on-line. In the process I've come across some weird dups:

*1 I seem to have some dups created by a difference in upper and lower
case letters - eg:
/home/morgan/Pictures/F-Spot/2008/05/03/dsc01190.jpg
/home/morgan/Pictures/F-Spot/2008/05/03/DSC01190.jpg
And, also there's a time difference between the photos (in the above, of
12Hrs)

*2 I seem to have (at least one) dup created by a difference of a year
in the file system - eg:
/home/morgan/Pictures/F-Spot/2007/02/26/p1000652.jpg
/home/morgan/Pictures/F-Spot/2008/02/26/p1000652.jpg
But, the dates of these photo's are the same:
Date Taken: 2008:02:26 05:17:36
Date Taken: 2008:02:26 05:17:36
And, strangely, /home/morgan/Pictures/F-Spot/2007/02/26/ contains a
whole raft of photo's dated 26/02/08 that in fact show up in F-Spot
under 26/02/08 in the time line...

*3 I've been trying to use the Hash for Duplicates plug-in, but I'm not
sure either it or me are working properly (haven't found any
instructions). It has made F-Spot hang/crash on a number of attempts.
It started of showing 993 needing md5 sum calculation, and 993 (iirc)
pending jobs. After click on execute and leaving for some time, I found
F-Spot hung. Restarting and re executing and following another hang I
now have 3 photos needing md5 sum calculation, and 0 pending jobs. And,
I've been shown no duplicates. How are the dups identified to the user?

Here's the output including executing Hash for Duplicates, stopping Hash
for Duplicates (after some disk activity has ceased) and closing the
window and then closing F-Spot. After the disk activity has stopped
there seems to be no output from Hash for Duplicates from stopping it or
closing it's window:
