Edit, Slideshow and Fullscreen functions don't work

First, I'm a rank beginner with Ubuntu and related applications. The
computer came with Ubuntu 9.01 and F-Spot preloaded. It worked great! I
upgraded to 9.04 and I noticed about the same time, that F-Spot was not
working correctly. I'm traveling on vacation with computer, so ability
to log in is limited.
First noted change was in the way photos were filed... initially, a year
folder was set up, with a month subfolder set up and then a day folder
set up, all automatically. This went away and now the photos are just in
a long list.
Second, I would double click a photo and it would go into edit mode
where I had a large image and would proceed to add a
caption/description. Now, double clicking brings up a greyed out stock
slide image.
Third, fullscreen and slideshow don't work. I just get the stock greyed
out slide image.
I tried to "remove" F-Spot, restarted the computer and then "added"
F-Spot, but nothing changed.
I have about 765 photos and expect to add at least another 500 while on
vacation.
I'm fully updated. As noted, I'm on vacation and ability to log in is
spotty. Appreciate your help.
