Smugmug export version confusion

Hello,

I successfully compiled and installed f-spot 0.4.4 on Ubuntu 8.10

Now, I am trying to export to SmugMug. I've deinstalled the smugmug
extension that f-spot 0.4.4 comes with (0.4.4.1) and upgraded to
0.4.4.3. 
I now experience the following problem: after a photo is uploaded,
f-spot complains that there was an "Error uploading to gallery: Object
reference not set to an instance of an object" Clicking on skip uploads
the photo just fine, but that's not how things should work.

I had this with f-spot 0.4.2 and found a corresponding thread here:

Upgrading to smugmug export plugin version 1.2 as proposed solved the
problem. However, Version 1.2 is only available using f-spot 0.4.2 (I
checked this by re-installing the older version).

I am wondering why the f-spot list message cited above says the new version of
the smugmug plugin is 1.2 whereas I can install version 0.4.4.3 only. 

Can anyone tell my what could be done in order to upload smoothly?
