Hi again,
I found the solution to the problem (just for the case someone has the
same problem some time). I had the /etc/drirc configured with <option
name="allow_large_textures" value="2" /> which apparently bothered
f-spot. Changing it to the standard value gives me perfect transitions
in f-spot.
