This will be amazing!  I, too, am a student of machine learning and my
adviser did his doctoral thesis on image detection methods (albeit not
face-detection), so I would be supremely interested in seeing what you
develop.  Good luck!  And thanks for choosing F-Spot for such an
impressive project!
