In 0.0.13 it still rotated the jpeg coefficients, which is lossless[1]
to the image in most cases (man jpegtran for more information). In
0.1.0 it simply rewrites the orientation tag in the exif info which is
definitely lossless[1] to the image and significantly less invasive.

1: Unfortunately in both cases there is the small possibility that if
libexif doesn't understand the marker note format and it changes the
structure of the exif info enough, some of the makernote metadata might
be lost. But you'd have to check with the libexif guys for the exact
circumstances.
