Just a couple of thoughts after using the new Photoshop Elements for a
bit, things that I'd love to see in f-spot.
- The concept of "stacks". Basically this is a group of pictures that
only appears as one in the main filebrowser (ie: the image on the top
of the stack). The concept here would be two fold:
- logical organization of images in a different way than tags, ie:
a stack of 'house' pictures, or a stack of pictures from the
country fair during the day and a stack from the party later at
night.
- maintaining version control. PSE3.0 uses a stack of images to
hide older versions of an image, so when you do an edit the new
version is put on top of the stack, so it's the one visible in
the file browser.
The actual implmentation of this would be almost like a folder, but
not. Clicking on a stack of images reveals another organizer view
with only the pictures in the stack visible.
Note that this idea wouldn't be instead of tags by any means, you'd
still be able to tag images, or tag a stack of images, or images
within that stack.
- saving metadata within the metadata... I'd really like to be able to
move computers, or use a program on another OS, to be able to suck
down comments, title or keywords from the comment field in the JPG
header info. Store something like "$comment;$tag,$tag..." in there
so that other apps can grab the info.
Either of these sound like a decent idea?
