@#$ $#, thats pretty bloody painful. All that work to make the code address-independent and you can't even use it.
I'll commit this for now as it handles the ipv4 case, and then think on it.

do you know if the "IPv6:" string gets prepended to the addr string when
appropriate by the getnameinfo() function?
either way this patch is more correct than what is currently there so I
think we can commit regardless.
