I ran into the problem where you can't add a gmail account due to the account
authorization request requiring a code to be entered. This is due to
Evolution setting the default authentication method for both receiving and
sending email to "OAuth2 Google", when it should be "Password" and "PLAIN",
respectively.

It is news to me that Evolution had an "OAuth2 Google" option under
"Edit > Preferences > Mail Accounts > Edit > Receiving Email >
Authentication" but happy to stand corrected. Your exact Evolution
version would be very welcome as you have not mentioned that.

Follow my steps below to get around this and add your Gmail accounts.
/One caveat: I don't think it will matter, but since I'm using KDE I
installed the gnome-online-accounts package in my early attempts to
circumvent this authentication request (by adding my Google accounts through
it). It didn't work and I forgot to uninstall it./

Once the "Google Account Authorization Request" window comes up just close
it (mine takes about 4 times) and again each time it pops back up. Or, log
in to try and authorize your account. Once you get the screen asking to
paste the code into 'your application' (see below)
<http://gnome-evolution-general.1774414.n4.nabble.com/file/t375754/Screenshot_20180902_201923.png>
then hit Cancel.
Then hit Cancel again and again until it goes away (again, took 4 times for
me)
Next, go to "Edit->Preferences->Mail Accounts" and then select the account
you just added.
Click the Edit button.
On the "Account Editor" screen, click "Sending Email" on the left.
Under "Authentication" click the drop-down and select "PLAIN".
Click on the "Receiving Email" tab on the left except this time choose
"Password" in the Authentication drop-down.
*/Each time I add an account, these both default to "OAuth2 Google" which
is causing the problem/*
Click the ok button
Now refresh the mailbox (send/receive mail) and you should be greeted with
this wonderful window:
<http://gnome-evolution-general.1774414.n4.nabble.com/file/t375754/temp.png>
to put in your password.
By the way, I'm using openSUSE Leap 15,0 with KDE (Plasma 5.12)

Cheers,
andre
