Why?
I feel the complete opposite. I would pretty to stick with
applications that use GSettings/dconf vs. some mess of random
configuration files - editing text files is not a solution for system
management. GConf/GSettings/dconf were created to solve very real
problems.
As an application developer the last thing I want to spend time on is a
framework for configuring my application. GSettings allows for
overriding, lock-down, etc... all things that are a genuine nuisance to
code custom. It also has notification - which isn't anything a stand-
alone application is going to implement.
I can also merrily take my configurations, reliably, from one account

default-values-system-settings> Which is much better than tar-scp-
untar+hope-n-pray.
