returns/line feeds are converted to a capital A with a caret(^) on
top. I have tried several different editors and am currently using
Kompozer. When finished and the external editor is closed the message
is returned to Evolution with the carriage returns/line feeds
removed. Everything is left as one long line with no carriage

Is there a way to preserve the original layout from Evolution in the
external editor?

        Hi,
I'm unsure what your question is. The first paragraph suggests that the
text returned from the external editor either has new lines missing or
they are not visually preserved by the Evolution composer. The second
paragraphs reverses the order, like you want line feeds in Evolution
being shown in the external editor.

Anyway, you said text/html. That has no significant line feeds, unless
the part being used is set to be Preformatted. Otherwise the HTML uses
<br> to mark line endings. Try to select the text in Evolution composer
and set its format to Preformatted.

I do not see any related change to line endings in the external editor
plugin since 3.20.x, except of the port to WebKit2, but that, as such,
also doesn't have anything to do with line endings.
