Well, there is an option in mail filters to forward the mail to a
program. So, you may try to feed the mail to grep -i ...
There also exists a program called grepmail,
http://grepmail.sourceforge.net/, to scan emails.
along the lines of grepmail...
mairix

mairix is a program for indexing and searching email messages stored in
maildir, MH or mbox folders.
Thanks for the hint. I can remember, I used Swish-e
(http://swish-e.org/) in the past to also index mail.
