WOW, THAT IS *ANCIENT*
My server is courier-imap 4.15, with emails stored in Maildir. Evolution is able to tell me when a new email arrive, but the 'Inbox' folder remains empty.
You have a display filter applied, probably the "Show" drop-down, make sure that reads "All Messages".
Thunderbird display the right thing.
