What sort of calendar is it?  A local one? Caldav? Exchange? Google?

There used to be issues with some types of calendar where the entry
would disappear because the remote end was slow at updating.  But it
would come back eventually - usually at the next refresh.

F16 is well past its sell-by date, as is Evolution 3.2.3.  I would
strongly advise you to update to at least Fedora 18, preferably Fedora
19 when you will also get a current version of Evolution.
