Might it be possible to start from scratch with a new version of
evolution and set it up again to do what necessary and also to see my
old evolution local folders?

Define "old".

I upgraded to Fedora 17 from Fedora 14 doing fresh install. Under
Fedora 14, I had evolution set up with several local folders. I want
to see those under evolution under Fedora 17.

How many is "several"? Have you tried to manually import the data from
the old folders using the method(s) that Matthew and I told you about?

I haven't gotten around to doiing that yet. but when I do, I'll report
back.

I mentioned in another response that I setup evolution using an
alternate login identity. The only problem that remained was the slow
downloading when I clicked on Send/Receive, compared to what happens
under Fedora 15 and evolution 3.0.3.
I didn't try copying my local folders to the new user. I'm not sure
exactly how to do that since the file structure is different.
