Tor - thank you for the help, that did it... after that I was able to launch the program, although it appears
to keep a command-prompt window open?
Thanks again for the help... with regards to Evolution for Windows does anyone know if there are future plans
for it?

I get the error "This application has
failed to start because MSVCR71.dll was not found..."
A search shows many different copies of this file, most of which are in a
Java subdirectory... so I am thinking it is already registered and perhaps
Evolution isn't able to access it?
I don't know what you exactly mean with "registered", but what you
could do is simply to copy one of those msvcr71.dll copes (the one
with a most recent version number) into Evolution's bin folder.
