Evidently evolution-mapi requires v2.24 or above of Evolution. I
assumed it would need svn build since it contains the hooks for the
Mapi plugin -

The mapi-account-setup-plugin uses existing hooks. so, *currently* it
can work with 2.24.x+

Manually building 2.25 does not offer any option for enabling MAPI
support. Am I wrong?

yes.

Is current going to work with the new svn build or do I still have to
build evo and evo-data-server from svn?

as of _now_ you don't have to build 2.25.x . But we will bump the
minimum requirement when the need arises (soon :) )

Basically, just build evolution-mapi and restart evolution. That would
have MAPI Account setup plugin loaded.

Anyway
Evolution won't build. Something wrong with comp-editor.c
