Re: [Evolution] Evolution ate my Inbox

Evolution 2.8.2 on OpenSuSE 10.2.

In the year I've been running OpenSuSE, Evolution has never shut down
properly. Either it crashes or hangs or the system crashes. Even
when I've tried to exit Evolution gracefully, it just hangs... and I
eventually kill it. No problem... when it starts back up, everything
is fine... until yesterday.

Yesterday, for the first time, it exited when I asked. This was
followed by a reboot. Upon restarting Evolution, it showed ~100
emails in my Inbox (rather than ~30k). Every time I restart it, it
shows a different message count... but still <2k.

My ~/.evolution/mail/local/Inbox file is ~1GB. Manual inspection
shows everything there (I see the recent messages that Evolution is no
longer showing in my Inbox).

There must be some sort of tag in the file that's lumped most of the
email into one message.

What should I look for and how to repair?

I have a similar problem, reported on this list with the following
message (slightly edited). You can see the whole discussion by
searching the archive for the subject "Evolution fails to see some
messages in Inbox"

I know there are earlier ones. If I search Inbox for a message that I
know is there, received in 2005, it's not found. But if I search the
*Account*, rather than Inbox, for the same message it is found.

Can anyone explain this?

Inbox is local and is rather large:
        3032 unread 8014 total
