I actually have the same problem and have yet to find a solution. Running verion 2.8.0 (Cent OS 5.0 distributed package).

I also can't go into Edit->Preferences.

I can use E-Mail and Contacts.

However if I create a new user and configure evolution, evolution calendar seems to work.
