I know, I know, I shouldn't reply to my own post, without a solution,
but ...

Another interesting anomaly I have found is that, before, one could open
or close pictures attached to emails, and the point in the message would
stay the same, now, when I open or close pictures, it scrolls me back to
the top of the message (or the bottom corner, if I am in caret mode).

What can be done to adjust this?  I did not find anything in the help
files.
