less'ed the source, and it is still available in 2.6!

As Iain told me yesterday on IRC, he tracked down this issue and even
provided a fix for this. By a quick look at the code, configure foo
actually is broken for the experimental plugins. Following up on this on
the patches list, to get it fixed.
